Monte Alban

This Zapotec Archeological site is one of the most treasured places in Oaxaca. Built around 500 BC, Monte Alban provides in depth insight into the pre-hispanic world of the Zapotec Empire. It is estimated that Monte Alban was both a socio-political and economic center of the Zapotecs for almost a thousand years. With original foundations intact, you will be able to imagine how houses, temples and sports arenas looked long before Columbus ever set foot onto the Americas.

Hierve el Agua

At Hierve al Agua you will see a petrified waterfall located on cliffs perfect for hiking. Swim in natural springs or in a swimming pool while enjoying the scenic view.

Mitla

Mitla is home to Zapotec burial grounds. You will gain insight to the art, architecture and cultural practices of the Zapotec people as you go underground and see where the tombs were kept.

San Bartolo Coyotepec

San Bartolo Coyotepec is a Black Pottery village. See a demonstration of how people have used unique black clay to sculpt pottery for generations.

San Martin Tilcajete

San Martin Tilcajete specializes in carving wooden sculptures known as alebrijes. The process of carving and creating the sculptures will be demonstrated. You will have the opportunity to visit different workshops and see how the style changes from one artesan to the next.

Ocotlan de Morelos

Visit the bustling market of Ocotlan de Morelos. Every Friday, people gather from all over the area to sell their goods and shop for the week. This is the best way to experience life in Oaxaca and to try amazing food!

Teotitlan del Valle

Teotitlan del Valle is known for weaving carpets. You will see the materials used to create vibrant colors and the process of weaving that has been passed down from generation to generation.
